We’re expanding the team at Dragon Parlor Games, and looking for another person to join the ranks.

Position

Processing Team Associate

This position is highly specific in nature, and while a successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute in part to all processes we perform, we are looking for someone who has particular strengths in Magic card handling to join our back-of-house card processing team.

Duties

This position will focus exclusively on card-handling duties, though employees are encouraged to express interest in other areas of operation for future growth.

This position will focus predominately in the following areas:

  • Sorting cards for storage
  • Merging inventory
  • Auditing inventory
  • Pulling orders (both local and shipped)
  • Packing orders (both local and shipped)

More experienced members will specialize in:

  • Interfacing with card-sorting machinery
  • Conditioning cards
  • Performing bids

Additional duties may include, but are not limited to:

Cleaning, customer service, sales, inventory maintenance, purchasing personal property on behalf of the Company, merchandizing, event management, money control processes, and anti-theft activities.

Who should apply

To succeed in this role requires a very specific knowledge, skill set, and temperament.

We are looking for applicants who:

  • Have succeeded in highly repetitive and monotonous roles
  • Enjoy finding distinctions in minutia
  • Enjoy refining processes, procedures, and methodologies
  • Always seek to know very specifically why and how things work
  • Have experience with Magic: The Gathering, especially in identification and sorting
  • Would rather know how to get the right answer, rather than just have the right answer
  • Are interested in losing all sense of wonder as tens of thousands of cards move through your hands

The most successful applicants have exhibited one of more of the following:

  • Have 2+ years experience in a related environment
  • Have experience working full-time managing Magic inventory
  • Been able to identify >50% of Magic set symbols on sight
  • Have bent the alphabet to their will
  • Have experience performing similarly monotonous & particular work

Purpose of Employment

Employment is a two-way agreement between employer and employee, and we want to work to ensure this agreement is as equitable as possible. Our industry benefits from long-term employees that learn and grow with the Company, preferably spending many years performing a variety of roles and eventually creating a permanent new niche in the Company for their specific talents. Employees, meanwhile, generally benefit from financial stability, personal growth, and fulfillment. To this end, the Owners have stipulated the following as one of the purposes of the Company:

Ø  Insomuch as is possible, to provide for the financial wellbeing of any Employees: to provide a livable wage, including medical insurance and retirement assistance, and provide such aid as may be possible in times of strife.

Additional Position Details

40 Contracted Hours (weekly)

This contract is for a permanent role, with a guarantee of 40 hours paid every week.

Employees will be scheduled for up to the contracted number of hours each week, which runs Monday through Sunday. This schedule will be fixed, with the same shifts and days each week. It will be necessary to deviate from this schedule to provide coverage for holidays, special events, vacation, or illness. Flexibility in this regard is expected, and any time off (even for days not normally scheduled) should be communicated to your manager.

Position Requirements

  • Employment is dependent on the following requirements. Please communicate with Owners if any of these requirements are presently or will foreseeably become problematic so we can work with you to ensure they can be met.
  • Employees must have a smart phone that: is in good operation; can install and run the current version of the following apps: Meta Business, Grasshopper, Slack; has a current phone and data plan; can send and receive phone calls & text messages. Please note that purchases and subscriptions made to fulfill this requirement may be tax deductible.
  • Employees must have a transportation plan to and from our location, with the ability to make it to work reliably (within reason), even with inclement weather, and with consideration to our operating hours. Employees will not be held accountable for breakdowns of the public transit system.
  • Employees must maintain an active email address.
  • Employees must maintain a professional standard of dress & hygiene.
  • Employees will be provided with company-branded apparel at Company expense.

Physical Requirements

Employees must be able to (with mechanical assistance as necessary): move items up to 50 pounds via lifting, carrying, pulling, pushing, reaching overhead, and reaching at or below shoulder level; gross and fine manipulation of items; position self to manipulate items, including areas lower than 2′ and higher than 5′; remain in stationary position during shift; move throughout the premises with multiple items; communicate with managers, peers, and customers about technical and detailed topics; complete tasks in a noisy environment; adhere to process protocols; be able to apply established protocols in a timely manner; perform keyboarding duties; have near visual acuity.

Employee Compensation & Privileges

Wage

  • Employee base wage is currently $23.88 per hour.
  • Employee base wage will be increased annually to adjust for cost of living. This increase will be at minimum equal to the annual increase in Washington state minimum wage.
  • Employee base wage will additionally be increased annually to adjust for any increase in the cost of health insurance. This increase will be at minimum equal to 50% of the increase in average monthly premiums among employees participating in the company health insurance plan. This adjustment is made for all employees regardless of insurance enrollment status.

Paid Time Off

  • Employees will accrue 1 hour of PTO per 25 hours worked (prorated per tenth of an hour).
  • e.g.: 76 hours per 1900 hours worked; approximately 10 days annually

Holiday Leave

  • Employees will accrue 1 hour of Holiday Leave per 20 hours worked (prorated per tenth of an hour).
  • e.g.: 95 hours per 1900 hours worked; approximately 12 days annually

Sick Leave

  • Employees will accrue 1 hour of sick leave per 40 hours worked (prorated per tenth of an hour).
  • e.g.: 47.5 hours per 1900 hours worked; approximately 6 days annually

Company Holiday

  • While rare, the Company may occasionally schedule days that the business will not operate.
  • Company Holiday days are paid, and guaranteed off.

Washington Family & Medical Leave

Employees in Washington have access to state Family & Medical Leave starting in 2020. This is an income tax-funded program that all Employees are entitled to. These benefits will generally allow up to 12 weeks of paid leave per year to care for yourself or your family.

Health Insurance

Employees may (and are encouraged to) obtain health insurance through the Company group policy. Insurance premiums are 100% employee-paid, though a cost-of-living adjustment to the Company base wage is provided annually to assist in these costs.

Employee Discount

Employees are entitled to a discount on all products sold by the Company, for personal use only. An Employee may purchase items for 5% over cost on any product which has an associated cost in the POS system. An Employee will receive a 40% discount on all other products (those for which a specific cost is not available, such as Magic singles or other second-hand product).

Limited Product Holds

Employees are entitled to preference on limited release products, and may have such items held for their purchase upon arrival. Any limit on quantity that would apply to customers also applies to employees.
